Do I NEED to upgrade?

We hear this question a lot at Clickety-Quick, and the short answer is "yes."

Now for the long answer...

As software developers continue to refine and polish their programs and operating systems with new releases, the preceding releases become outdated for both users and machines alike. This evolution can leave holes in the early versions' stability and security, which is where the developer support comes into play. After each release, developers offer support (updates, etc.) to ensure their software is safe and stable for use while technology and it's users continue to evolve around it.  This support however, is only available for a limited amount of time.
When should I upgrade?

This will depend on your user habits, industry, and personal preferences. It is not required to upgrade to EVERY NEW VERSION made available to you, as long as you have upgraded before the support for your current version runs out. Are you still running Microsoft XP?  Support for XP will end as of April 8, 2014 - less than 3 months from the posting of this blog.

How can I find out when my software will no longer be supported?

For other programs, you may refer to their respective developer websites or contact their listed support services.  This information can often be found in the "Help" or "About" information included in their products.

What if I don't like change?

I'm afraid you'll just have to get over it.  Using unsupported or obsolete software can impede your computer's performance (even crash it), and leave holes in your security. To best protect your data and your peace of mind, be sure to upgrade your software accordingly.
